DR SACHA VIDLER, Chief Economist

Dr Sacha Vidler, Chief Economist of Industry Super Network (ISN) leads a team of economists and policy and industrial advisers based in ISN’s Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra offices. Based in Sydney, Sacha undertakes research, analysis and economic modelling on the Australian retirement income system to support submissions to major inquiries, and advocacy to Government and opinion leaders.

In his report Supernomics, Sacha explored the three causes of market failure in Australia’s superannuation system and how to fix them. He advocated the release of official superannuation performance data to improve the transparency and accountability of the superannuation system for consumers. Before joining ISN Sacha advised the New South Wales government on economic and financial aspects of a biodiversity trading scheme and undertook economic and financial analysis on the NSW energy efficiency strategy. Sacha has a PHd in Economics and a Bachelor of Economics (Social Science) with first class Honours from the University of Sydney.

‘The importance of precise data and analysis to achieve the development of sound superannuation policy for the benefit of members cannot be under-estimated. For example official, unbiased performance data was an important step to achieving the goal of greater transparency by providing clarity about long term performance for those workers exercising their right to choose their fund as well as the industry itself.’
